The 4 Chords That Can Play Almost Any Song
Hey there! If you’ve always wanted to play your favorite worship or pop songs on the piano, but didn’t know where to start—this is for you.
Believe it or not, there’s a simple trick that many beginners (and even pros!) use: you only need to learn 4 chords to start playing lots of songs. Yep—just four.
Let me introduce you to the beautiful combo:
C – G – Am – F
These chords show up everywhere, especially in modern worship music. They're super beginner-friendly, and they sound amazing together!
Why These Chords?
In music theory, this is called the I–V–vi–IV progression. Sounds fancy, but don’t worry about that for now. Just know that these chords flow really nicely and repeat in a way that makes songs feel natural and emotional.
And once you’ve learned them, you’ll start recognizing them in so many songs you already know.
Try Playing These Songs
Here are just a few well-known songs that use these exact chords (or close versions):
You Say – Lauren Daigle
10,000 Reasons – Matt Redman
With Everything – Hillsong
Let It Be – The Beatles
I’m Yours – Jason Mraz
Perfect – Ed Sheeran
You could sit down at the piano today and start playing through a bunch of these with just a bit of practice.
